Located on the west bank of the Nile River in Luxor, the Valley of the Kings is one of the most iconic archaeological sites in Egypt. This ancient royal necropolis was the burial site for pharaohs and nobles during the New Kingdom period (16th–11th century BCE), including the famous Tutankhamun.
Historical Significance
The Valley of the Kings contains over 60 known tombs, some with elaborate hieroglyphics and beautifully preserved wall paintings. Unlike the pyramids of Giza, these tombs were hidden underground to protect them from grave robbers.
